Uzerche (8.5 KM) - A short drive (or cycle ride for the energetic) away is the historic town of Uzerche. A fortified town overlooking the Vezere river and overflowing with vaulted paths, old houses and masterpieces of Romanesque art. Affectionately known as 'The Pearl of the Limousin', this picturesque town justifies the popular saying <who has a house in Uzerche, owns a castle in the Limousin'. You will find everything here you would expect in a larger town including supermarkets, shops, cinema, bars, restaurants, tourist office and a train station. Canoeing, kayaking and cycling are very popular here. In July & August you can ride on a tourist train around the town with commentary recalling the history and the current life of this popular Village Etape.

Seilhac (20.9 KM) - Fancy a day at the beach? Lake Bournazel is a 32 hectare lake with supervised swimming in the height of the summer. Also featuring a diving board, fishing, children's games, hiring of pedalos, canoes and kayaks. Windsurfing allowed plus horse riding in July and August. With a bar, restaurant and plenty of picnic areas this is an ideal place for a family day out.

Brive (46.2 KM) - Superb colourful markets. The medieval centre is mainly a commercial district with retail shops and various cafes. Here you will find the much-restored church of St Martin surrounded by numerous streets with many turreted and towered houses, some dating back to the 13th century. The 16th century Hotel de Labenche houses the town's archeological finds as well as a collection of 17th century tapestries in the Musee Labenche. Also home to the CA Brive Rugby Union Team founded in 1904.

Limoges (60.2 KM) - The administrative capital of the Limousin region. Known for its medieval enamels on copper, its 19th century porcelain and the oak barrels which are used for Cognac production. There are many places well worth a visit including the magnificent Art Deco 'Gare des Benedictins', the Gothic cathedral, the Musee Municipal de l'Eveche with its showpiece collections of enamelware dating back to the twelfth century. The best area for a relaxed stroll is the partly renovated old quarter of the town, where you'll find rue de la Boucherie, for a thousand years the domain of the butchers' guild. Airport with regular flights to the UK.

Pompadour (26.4 KM) - A town dominated by its grey turreted chateau, presented in 1745 by Louis XV to his mistress, Madame de Pompadour. Now home to one of France's best known stud farms (haras), where Anglo-Arabs were first bred. During certain times of the year it is possible to join a guided visit to the ecurie des etalons where the stallions are kept or the Jumenterie de la Riviere where the mares live. From March to October there are frequent race meetings on the magnificent track in front of the chateau plus various events, the biggest of which is the Fete du Cheval on 15th August.

Lac de Vassiviere (65.4 KM) - "France's great lake" - 1000 hectares. 45km of shores in the valley and moors. Fine sandy beaches with lifeguards. 300km of marked paths. Offering all sorts of sports activities and a beautiful setting for a contemporary art museum.
